Weekly highlights — movies
This week the theatrical slate leans heavily toward quiet character studies, while the streaming side is stacked with returning franchises. Our recommendation: start with the festival breakout below, then work through the back catalogue of the director spotlight. If you only have one evening, the "Film of the Week" write-up tells you exactly what to expect without spoilers, including pacing notes and content warnings.
Weekly highlights — anime
The spring line-up is unusually strong for original productions. Three of the eight most-watched shows this season are not adaptations, which almost never happens. Our season guide ranks them by commitment cost — how many evenings each one realistically asks of you — because "great show you will never finish" is a real category, and knowing that up front saves everybody a mid-season breakup.
How we pick
Every listing on CineNest passes three filters: the title must have a confirmed release window in a territory we track; it must have at least two independent reviews from critics we actually follow; and at least one editor has to watch the first two episodes or the opening act before we publish. We do not accept payment for placement in the highlight grid, and we do not refresh "week's best" lists without watching something new. When we are wrong, the correction goes at the bottom of the article, dated, never silently edited.
